What's in this Devin Desktop cheat sheet

Devin Desktop is Cognition's agent editor, documented as Devin Desktop (Windsurf). On 23 October 2026 version 3.11.212 rebuilt the Agent Window so it matches app.devin.ai, including a command palette on Command+K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux). Version 3.11.216 followed on 24 October. Devin does not publish one shortcut reference for the desktop app. This page collects the keys from the changelog and the Command, Tab, and Cascade docs.

Two palettes, and two jobs for Command+Enter

The Agent Window palette is Command+K / Ctrl+K. The editor palette is still Command+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P, the same chord as VS Code. Command+Enter also means two things. In the Agent Window it queues a message. In the editor it accepts an inline Command edit. Read the group title before you memorize a row.

Cascade, the previous agent, was removed in version 3.9.19 on 8 September 2026. Devin Local is the agent in the editor. Devin CLI has its own shortcut list and is not on this page. The editor still inherits a VS Code keymap, which you can reopen from the editor palette. That full list lives on the VS Code page and the Windsurf page.

Windows and Linux share one keyset unless a row says otherwise. Ctrl+Enter queues a message in the Agent Window and accepts an inline Command edit in the editor. The JetBrains group is the plugin, not the desktop app. Rows marked Not documented are keys Devin has not published for this platform.

Mac uses Command where Windows uses Ctrl, and Option where Windows uses Alt. Command+Enter queues a message in the Agent Window and accepts an inline Command edit in the editor. Go to Line and terminal copy are published for Windows and Linux only, so those rows stay unmarked here. The JetBrains group is the plugin, not the desktop app.

Enter steers. Command+Enter queues.

In Devin Desktop 3.11.212, pressing Enter while Devin is working steers the running turn. Command+Enter on Mac, or Ctrl+Enter on Windows and Linux, holds the message until the turn ends. Cloud sessions use that same chord to queue on the server. When Devin is idle, Enter still sends.

  1. Type the correction in the composer. Typing anywhere in the Agent Window focuses it.
  2. Press Enter to fold the message into the turn that is already running.
  3. Press Command+Enter or Ctrl+Enter if it should wait.
  4. Press Command+. or Ctrl+. to cycle the agent mode before you send.

Command+K is not the editor palette

The Agent Window command palette is Command+K / Ctrl+K, the same key as app.devin.ai. It searches the content of Local sessions, not only their titles. The editor window still opens its palette with Command+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P. From that palette, type "Devin" for commands such as Open Devin User Settings, or type VS Code or Cursor to import those keybindings after onboarding.

Code, Plan, and Ask

Command+. / Ctrl+. cycles Code, Plan, and Ask from the mode selector under the input, and from the empty editor welcome panel. Code edits and runs commands. Plan writes a Markdown plan under ~/.devin/plans (or ~/.windsurf/plans) and waits. Ask only searches. Typing megaplan, ultraplan, or masterplan in the message forces a deeper plan and asks at least one question first. Command+G / Ctrl+G is separate: it switches the whole window between Agent mode and Editor mode.

Command, Tab, and quoting code

Command (Command+I / Ctrl+I) edits the current file, or the terminal command line, from a natural-language instruction. Submit and accept with Command+Enter / Ctrl+Enter. Reject with Command+Shift+Backspace / Ctrl+Shift+Backspace. A second doc still lists the code-lens keys Option+A / Alt+A, Option+R / Alt+R, and Option+F / Alt+F. Command does not spend premium model credits. Tab accepts with Tab, cancels with Escape, and takes the next word with Command+Right / Ctrl+Right. Select code and press Command+L / Ctrl+L to quote it into the chat.

Devin Desktop Shortcuts — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Enter and Command+Enter in Devin Desktop?

While Devin is working in the Agent Window, Enter steers the running turn and Command+Enter on Mac (Ctrl+Enter on Windows and Linux) queues the message until that turn ends. This changed in Devin Desktop 3.11.212 on October 23, 2026. The same Command+Enter or Ctrl+Enter accepts an inline Command edit in the editor, so the key depends on which surface has focus.

How do I open the command palette in Devin Desktop?

The Agent Window, which matches app.devin.ai as of October 23, 2026, opens its command palette with Command+K on Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux. The editor, the VS Code-based window, still opens its command palette with Command+Shift+P or Ctrl+Shift+P.

How do I switch agent modes in Devin Desktop?

Press Command+. on Mac or Ctrl+. on Windows and Linux. In the editor this cycles Code, Plan, and Ask. The same key cycles the agent mode in the Agent Window, and it also works from the empty editor welcome panel. Command+G or Ctrl+G is a different shortcut: it switches the window between Agent mode and Editor mode.

How do I mark a Devin session done?

Press Command+Shift+E on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+E on Windows and Linux. Devin added this with the October 23, 2026 Agent Window. The same key is documented as marking the session done or not done. Command+Shift+L or Ctrl+Shift+L copies a link to the session.

How do I quote code into the Devin chat?

Select code in an editor tab and press Command+L on Mac or Ctrl+L on Windows and Linux. The same key adds selected transcript text to the chat input. To attach context without a selection, type @ and pick a file, a rule, a plan, or a configured MCP server.

What does Command+I do in Devin Desktop?

Command+I on Mac or Ctrl+I on Windows and Linux opens Command, the inline edit. Type an instruction and press Command+Enter or Ctrl+Enter to submit it. That same key accepts the generated code. Command+Shift+Backspace or Ctrl+Shift+Backspace rejects it. The published code-lens keys are Option+A or Alt+A to accept, Option+R or Alt+R to reject, and Option+F or Alt+F to follow up. Highlight code first if you want Command to edit that selection. With no selection, it writes at the cursor. Command does not use premium model credits.

How do Tab suggestions work in Devin Desktop?

Press Tab to accept a suggestion, Escape to cancel it, and Command+Right or Ctrl+Right to accept the next word. Option+] or Alt+] shows the next suggestion, Option+[ or Alt+[ the previous one, and Option+\ or Alt+\ triggers one. Tab also jumps to the next predicted edit and inserts a suggested import when that hint is showing. Turn suggestions off under Devin Tab settings by setting completion mode to Off.

Is Devin Desktop the same as Windsurf?

Devin Desktop is the editor Cognition documents as Devin Desktop (Windsurf). Cascade, the previous agent, was removed in version 3.9.19 on September 8, 2026, and Devin Local is the agent in the editor. The October 23, 2026 Agent Window is a newer surface that matches the Devin web app, with its own command palette on Command+K. The older editor keymap remains on the Windsurf page. Devin CLI has a separate shortcut list and is not covered here.
